So I like reading, but strictly like classics or non-fiction or philosophy (especially 19th century Existentialism and ancient Greco-Roman philosophy). I just can't get into fantasy or romance or that type of stuff. Sorry.
Apart from my career, I also like Education, Photography, Muay Thai, MMA, Basketball, Cooking, Writing, Video Games, Electronic Engineering.
I was born in Shanghai but I moved to Melbourne, Australia when I was very young. I speak both Mandarin and English (Shanghainese if you really want) but maybe my Mum would disagree (she makes fun of me all the time 但我真心觉得我中文还行吧.
For the longest time I've considered myself first and foremost as an artist. I'm fascinated, every day, by the world around me, there's always something simple and beautiful in every day life, only when we pause once in a while can we appreciate the fantastical absurdity of the world that we live in.
Growing up I was an avid musician, I played the oboe, violin, guitar though oboe is definitely my weapon of choice if I were asked to played something in the case when you know... the parents want to show off. I was also a bit of a nerd. My favourite subjects were always science related I liked physics, mathematics and computers but for the majority of my life, I was led to believe that my interest in the arts and the sciences were mutually exclusive. I later started to learn that the arts and the sciences were but two peas in the same pod. As the great Albert Einstein once said: "Imagination is more important than knowledge." The important thing about being a musician isn't reading the music, it's can you hear the music?
One day I got a chance to work with a friend of mine. She saw that I was good with technology and had an interest in design so she offered me a shot at designing a website for her small academic consulting company. I thought why not so I said yes. I cringe when I look back at my first project and I would have for sure got fired if she wasn't a friend of mine but she was very considerate and patient with the whole process. (If you're reading this Lewen, I'm eternally grateful for opportunity you gave me, you really opened my eyes to a world I had no idea existed.)
I love science, I love computers, I love creating, reading, writing, seeing beauty beyond the world we live in. But like all things, it's not just beauty you find. There is a price to pay for insight.
I'm a thinker and a great improviser; I'm proactive, adaptable and observant, I have an uncanny ability to pick the world apart and see what's really going on. I'm skeptical and suspicious of the status quo, I'm always looking for ways to improve and do things differently, a double-edged quality of mine that has definitely got me into trouble on multiple occasions.
